So in my intoxicating excitement over spending 6 weeks in Poland, I somehow convinced myself that I could learn at least a little Polish before going over there. I mean come on, how hard can it be?
So after doing one lesson of Polish on my 101 Languages of the World software, I am ready to give up on learning this language. In fact, I have decided the only way to learn Polish is to be born a Polish child to a Polish family in Poland.
For example, to ask someone in Polish if they speak English (the most basic phrase I must master), you have to say something like czy pani mowi po angielsku??? CZY? I can't even BEGIN to think how you would say that. How is that a word? And apparently Z and W are entire WORDS in Polish.
I totally give up.
Calm down! Polish is not that hard! (I must admit I was born in Poland and so I'm expressing a slightly biased view). Instead of saying "Czy pani zna angielski?" (do you know english? note: only when asking an older woman)you could say "Czy znasz angielski?" (do you know english). Its much shorter and applies to a general audience. If you need any more help just e-mail me. I only lived in Poland for 4 years (my first four years) and I understand the language perfectly. I'm sure you can do it too!
